What is STEP?
Rotary Short Term Exchange Program (STEP) presents opportunities for students to advance their knowledge and world understanding by enabling them to live abroad for a brief time over the summer. Participants will live with one host family in the destination country for approximately one month in the summer, under the sponsorship of their local Rotary Club. This is a true exchange program because the host brother/sister from abroad will also spend a month with the participating student in his/her home in the USA during the same summer. This program is made available to students aged 15-19 with a minimum GPA of 2.50.
STEP is a wonderful opportunity for individuals to experience another culture during a brief stay in a foreign country. This program can serve as a stepping stone for students who are not ready or able to invest in a full year-long exchange.
How to apply
There is a two-step application process to apply for this program. First, a student must fill out the preliminary application below any time prior to December 15. Once the preliminary application has been accepted and approved, by a local Rotary Club, the student will fill out a much more robust, final application on the Central States Rotary Youth Exchange website. The final application will be due February 15. Further details can be found in the program details document. Additionally, more guidance will be provided by a Rotarian following the submission of the preliminary application.
